ALVIS 21 TE ENGINE REBUILD
FOLLOWING ON FROM FULL BODY AND PAINTWORK RESTORATION RECENTLY
COMPLETED HERE, ITS NOW TIME TO ATTEND TO MECHANICAL ASPECTS OF
THE CAR, PRIMARILY THE ENGINE ITSELF. A NASTY WATER LEAK FROM CYLINDER
HEAD WAS NOTICED AFTER STATIC RUNNING FOR SEVERAL MINUTES, AND A
FAILED HEAD GASKET DIAGNOSED. WE ARE CARRYING OUT ENHANCEMENTS
TO THE ENGINE TO IMPROVE LONG TERM RELIABILITY, SUCH AS BESPOKE FLANGE
NUTS AS ONE EXAMPLE.

STRIPDOWN COMMENCES (08/05/2024)
The engine carefully removed, now being dismantled to inspect damage from failed
head gasket, and wear and tear from prior use. Rocker rail separated, blasted with
air line, soaked in kerosene. Inlet manifold, thermostat housing etc bead blasted.
Head studs replaced. Block and head checked for flatness. Exhaust face skimmed
due to excessive pitting.
GENERAL REFIT (30/11/-0001)
General refit underway, sound deadening pads now installed throughout, have
fitted a Facet electric fuel pump, refitted the wiper motor etc.
